Position Summary:

River Crest Hospital is searching for a Full Time benefits eligible Collections Coordinator. The primary functions of this position are assists with verifications of insurance coverage and pre-certification when necessary. Discusses financial matters concerning balances outstanding, as well as, offering financial arrangements to patients upon admission and discharge. Is able to help review patient account files and ensure their accuracy and completeness; receives and answers all billing-related inquires. Is trained in all areas of the insurance billing and verifications department in order to provide back up coverage. This position exists to follow up on patient accounts from date insurance claims are billed to receipt of payments. Performs routine reviews to update patient accounts to correct financial status. Determines amount of patient’s responsibility after third party payment and refers account to collection agency for collection of balance or to accounting clerk to refund. Receives and reviews past due bills and follow-up documents; contacts patients and/or third party payer organizations to secure payments or arrange alternative settlement plans; identifies problem delinquencies and recommends their disposition; prepares and maintains collection-related records. Assists with month-end closing procedures when needed and helps in verifying and assuring the month-end midnight census is accurate when needed. Provides backup for Business Office Manager’s duties when needed (i.e. keying charges, keying deposit, reporting weekly A/R accounts). Provides backup coverage for inquiry calls and receptionist lunches on designated days. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 
Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of insurance and billing practices and procedures
  • knowledge of department and personnel policies
  •  working knowledge of medical terminology, third party reimbursement
  •  Blue Cross, Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurance coverage required
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • skill in the operation of computer systems
  • Ability to plan, organize and conduct insurance and billing processes in a timely manner
  • This job requires understanding of and compliance with River Crest Hospital’s safety and loss control policies. 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand for sustained period of time, walk, pull, lift objects from a lower to higher position or horizontally from position to position
  • express or exchange ideas orally and potentially loudly, accurately or quickly
  •  perform repetitive motions of the wrist, hands, or fingers. 
  • Light work most of the time, lifting 10 to 20 pounds of copier/printer paper from floor level to chest level while filling the copier/printer with paper
  • Work is sedentary, requiring sitting most of the day. 
  • Computer and typing constant during shift. 
  • Three-fourths of the day spent on the telephone with insurance companies.
  • Sitting at least six hours a day while processing paperwork, answering the phone and other described duties.
    Standing at least one hour a day while making copies, delivering messages, etc.
  • Bending from the waist to file information.
  •  Any other activity that is required to complete normal business in the Business Office.

Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent, and one year experience in billing claims, preferably in a hospital setting.
