Position Summary:

First Home Care has been providing quality care since 1991. We provide community-based services for children with a history of out-of-home behavioral health treatment. The First Home Care team has developed an integrated continuum of care which includes Therapeutic Foster Care, School-Based Programming, Alternative Day School and Outpatient Counseling. First Home Care has facilities located in Portsmouth, VA, Richmond, VA, Alexandria, VA, Painter, VA, Roanoke, VA, Washington, DC, Clinton, MD and Baltimore, MD.

First Home Care currently has an excellent career opportunity for an experienced Family Centered Specialist to work with children, adolescents and families providing Mental Health Support and Intensive In-Home Services in the Richmond, VA area.

The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:

  • Serve as a positive role mole for children/adolescents and adults to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors.
  • Contribute to formulation and implementation of the treatment plans. 
  • Provides individualized services to include medication education, teaching daily living skills, and enhances social and interpersonal skills. 
  • Travels throughout the community to provide mental health services in the home and to act as a community liaison between the individuals we serve and the service providers in the community.

The following are the job requirements for the Family Centered Specialist position:

  • Master’s Degree in Human Services or related field. Human Services field includes Social Work, Psychology, Sociology and Counseling.  License-Eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a LPC or LCSW preferred.
  • One or more years experience proving direct clinical care to children/adolescents and adults with mental health illness.  Must be qualified as a QMHP for Adults and Children.
  • Must possess knowledge of community resources and how to access such resources; principles of effective home, family and personal management; family dynamics; military structure and military lifestyle; crisis intervention/management. 
  • Must have knowledge of parenting and child care skills training; home management; resources/network building and strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Must have valid driver's license and a good DMV record.
