Position Summary:

Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center offers hope and healing for youth ages 5 to 21 with several psychiatric diagnoses and/or developmental disabilities. Located in Portsmouth, Va., Harbor Point provides intensive, residential treatment to youth in a comfortable setting that is conducive to healing. Our facility specializes in treating children and adolescents with depression, bipolar, ADHD, and other mental health issues. We even have specific treatment programs for those with intellectual disabilities or those with self-injurious behavior.

Harbor Point and its programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities. We are licensed by The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Education. We are a TRICARE®-approved and certified facility.

Harbor Point BHC is currently seeking a Registered Nurse to serve in the position of Program Manager for several programs within our medical model.

Position Scope:                    Provides assistance and support to the Director of Nursing in the management of the daily Nursing Care as well as leadership, administrative direction and supervision of staff. Provides nursing supervision and oversight, and training and scheduling of nursing staff. Ensures consistent use of the nursing and residential care process in providing quality care and acts as a resource to all nursing and direct care staff. Assists in training resident care staff. Implements programming and provides ongoing training and supervision to create and maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu Provides assessments, nursing care and evaluation of nursing care. Collaborates with other department personnel in establishing and complying with resident care standards, policies, procedures and protocols. Monitors utilization of resources to provide cost effective care. Provides primary channels of communication for physicians, therapists, caseworkers, DON, facility managers and administrators. Serves as a role model for residents to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors and demonstrates Service Excellence.

 

 
Requirements

Qualifications:                     An individual must be able to perform each Essential Function of the job satisfactorily. Good verbal and written skills, ability to rotate shifts and programs as necessary, ability to maintain confidentiality of resident information. Demonstrates knowledge of risk factors for violence and determining potential for violent acting out and ability to assess suicidal/homicidal ideations. On call requirements required.

 

Education:                         &nb sp;  Graduation from an accredited nursing program with licensure and registration by the Virginia Board of Nurse Examiners as a Registered Nurse.

Licensure/                       &nb sp;     Licensed by Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered

Certification:                       Nurse. CPR certification.

                

Experience:                       &nb sp;  Minimum of one year of experience working with children and adolescents in a psychiatric facility or rehabilitation program. Minimum of three years supervisory experience.

 

Knowledge:                        &nb sp;  Must possess demonstrated leadership ability, the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and individuals, strong oral and written communication skills. Must possess knowledge of general and child/adolescent psychiatric nursing, therapeutic relationships, therapeutic processes, growth and development, limit-setting and behavior management, crisis management with aggressive behaviors and CPR.

Physical

Requirements:                      Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. The incumbent must be physically capable of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent, mentally ill patients as necessary, including lifting, supporting, running towards or away from areas where problems are occurring, and pushing and pulling equipment, such as, wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds. Ability to perform CPR and First Aid.
