Havenwyck Hospitalis a 232-bed, Joint Commission accredited and licensed psychiatric and substance abuse facility overlooking Lake Galloway in Auburn Hills, Mich. We specialize in providing behavioral health and substance abuse services to children, adolescents, and adults. Due to our recent expansion of our award winning acute inpatient and residential programs Havenwyck Hospital has an excellent career opportunity for an experience Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist position to join our team of compassionate, dedicated clinical professionals.  The therapist is responsible for the provision of Recreational Therapy services, including assessment, treatment planning, therapeutic activity interventions and discharge leisure planning. The therapist utilizes individual and/or group activity interventions to bring about positive changes in the client=s behavior, be-it cognitive, social, emotional or physical. The therapist educates the client in healthy coping skills, and available leisure resources to continue the client in post-discharge leisure planning and involvement. The therapist will be responsible for the provision of services according to the current standards of practice.
The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:     &am p;am p;nb sp;     
  • Establishes treatment goals and objectives to meet individual needs of clients, and determines the TR Modality by which the goals are achieved.
  • Evaluates each client=s progress and the effectiveness of therapy treatment, and records results on daily progress notes follows all documentation policies.
  • Develops and applies clinical skills by interviewing and assessing client=s level of functioning; observing patient participation in RT/TR Sessions and their response to the same.
  • Attends treatment team conferences to exchange information and observations with other members of the team, as well as assisting with the completion of the initial Treatment Plan and Treatment Plan progress summary updates.
  • Records behaviorally stated problems and interventions that are pertinent to RT/TR on the MTP problem list and Discharge Summary in a timely fashion.
  • Involved in implementing individual treatment plans for clients using the interdisciplinary team approach.
  • Displays a professional and friendly attitude when communicating/working with other disciplines and/or outside agencies.
  • Educates/counsels clients in regards to their personal leisure lifestyle and creates an awareness of leisure resources in their own community, as well as focusing on family involvement.
  • Educates clients in regards to healthy coping skills, and how to use recreation and leisure to assist in coping and recovery.
  • Coordinates individual and group activities using the TR Modality working on related goals (i.e., fine motor skills, increased socialization, decreased frustration tolerance, work skills, emotional and affective responses, abilities, interests, and interpersonal relationships.
  • Shows initiative in implementing new treatment programs on an ongoing basis relating to any changes in the mental health field.
  • Keeps RT Manager appraised of any difficulties or necessary changes required in program or staff development.
  • Instructs clients in proper use of equipment and supplies used during treatment sessions, following appropriate protocol.
  • Follows hospital policy on patient precautions related to RT.
  • Completes safety rounds check list.
  • Prepares request for supplies and equipment and supplies used during treatment sessions, following appropriate protocol.
 
 
Requirements
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an approved program.
  • Certification by National Certification Board (NCTRC).
  • Experience in psychiatric setting preferred.
