Position Summary:

Belmont Pines Hospital, the largest freestanding children’s behavioral health hospital in northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania, is the premier provider of comprehensive behavioral services for children and adolescents. The modern, 51,580-square-foot facility is located on 19 wooded acres in Liberty Township, Ohio, and offers 102 beds in a safe and comfortable environment designed for young patients.

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling to patients ranging in age from preschool through adolescence.  COTA's work under the direction of the COO and Unit Directors.
 - Assist or develop therapeutic interventions in conjunction with the treatment team and for each patient/resident.
 - Assist patients in the development of living skills per the treatment plan
 - Comply with the established policies and procedures requiring a safe, clean and therapeutic environment
 - Establish and maintain a professional therapeutic relationship with patients
 - Teach the patient proper hygiene and ensure adherence to hygiene methods
 - Carry out teaching activities identified in the treatment plan under the supervision of the charge nurse or unit director
 - Model and teach appropriate social skills
 - Promote occupational/recreational function based on patient's age
 - Orient patients to their unit and program, providing continuous guidance as needed
 - Assume responsibilities for the completion of all patient care responsibilities and other assigned duties
 - Perform job functions of Behavioral Counseling Technician as needed
 - Comply with all company procedures & training, including methods of infection control and Code of Ethics


Education:  Degree from an accredited college or university in occupational therapy (assistant level). Successful passing of NBCOT examination.

Experience: Completion of fieldwork as part of degree requirements. Knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness and group work. Previous work experience as a COTA in a psychiatric hospital is preferred.

Licensure:   Must maintain a valid Ohio license as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).

Additional Requirements: CPR Certification and successful completion of Crisis Intervention Training (CPI) including appropriate use of Seclusion and Restraint immediately following employment and prior to performing patient care.  Required to work flexible hours and shifts, such as weekends and afternoon shift hours.
