The HIM Coordinator assists in the coding area with coding backlogs and fills in for coders absences.  Reports to the Director with responsibility for conducting/coordinating various special project assignments, providing technical support to all sections within the Department.  Attends team meetings and represents HIM Department, leading team in absence of Director as needed.  Represents hospital in court cases as needed.

Requirements

EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management:  RHIA or RHIT with Bachelor’s degree in related field
required or comparable combination of education and work experience.   

EXPERIENCE:  Three to five years experience in Health Information Management and coding experience required. Prefer experience in implementation/maintenance of electronic health information systems.  Prefer project-planning experience.

SKILLS:  Demonstrated excellent oral and written communications skills.  Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and project management skills.  Excellent understanding of medical record technical activities and computer skills.  Knowledge of JCAH, State and Federal regulations regarding medical records.  Knowledge of word processing and electronic spreadsheet software packages required.  Knowledge of project management software desirable.  Extensive knowledge of coding with two to three years experience  required.
