Havenwyck Hospital is a 251-bed, Joint Commission accredited and licensed psychiatric and substance abuse facility overlooking Lake Galloway in Auburn Hills, Mich. We specialize in providing behavioral health and substance abuse services to children, adolescents, and adults. Havenwyck Hospital has an excellent career opportunity for a Financial Counselor to join our team. 
 
The Financial Counselor is responsible for completing financial assessments of the patient’s ability to pay, collecting deposits, negotiating payment arrangements, securing financing of self-pay liability, and identifying funding sources. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Ability to work with the mentally ill and potentially hostile patients.
  • Maintains a high level of personal integrity and willingness to be flexible with a work schedule to meet the patients needs.
  • Obtains and conveys benefit and eligibility information to staff on a timely basis.
  • Determines third party and self-pay liability, which includes following up as needed.
  • Determines benefits, anticipated length of stay, and an average program cost to establish the correct liability.  Requests and follows up on payment agreements on estimated balances.
  • Prepares and discusses estimates with the patient and/or family.
  • Prepares Administrative/Charity Approval forms and routes them for approval.
  • Maintains up-to-date and accurate Subscriber Coverage, when necessary.
  • Obtains financial statements/credit reports as needed to assess the patient’s ability to pay and obtains payment prior to discharge.
  • Performs financial counseling as needed to assist patients in identifying funding sources.
 
Requirements
Job Requirements:
  • Associates degree or three (3) years of financial counseling experience. 
  • Bachelors degree preferred.  A minimum of two (2) years of admission and/or collections experience in a hospital setting required.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with consumers in the completion of Medicaid assistance applications in a psychiatric hospital preferred.
  • Basic computer and strong math skills required.Working knowledge of insurance benefits and Medicaid guidelines to complete Medicaid applications required.
